About the Role
This is a superb opportunity for an ambitious Data Protection Lawyer (Associate or Senior Associate level) to develop their career within a dynamic, forward-thinking environment. You'll be working on cutting-edge data protection and privacy matters for clients across diverse sectors including technology, creative industries, education, healthcare, and the public sector. The role offers genuine scope for career progression, client relationship building, and the chance to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team of specialists.
Data Protection Lawyer Responsibilities
- Advising clients on UK GDPR, DPA 2018, PECR and other relevant data protection legislation
- Drafting and reviewing comprehensive data protection documentation including privacy policies, DPIAs, and data processing agreements
- Supporting clients with data protection audits, gap analyses and compliance programmes
- Providing expert advice on data breaches and supporting incident response
- Working on commercial matters involving data and technology, often collaborating with IP and Technology lawyers
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships and contributing to business development initiatives
- Supervising and mentoring junior team members (at Senior Associate level)
Data Protection Lawyer Requirements
- 5+ years' post-qualification experience in data protection/privacy law
- A Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Data Protection (e.g. PGCert or PGDip) or equivalent specialist qualification
- Strong knowledge of UK and EU data protection legislation and ICO guidance
- Proven experience advising businesses on data governance, risk, and compliance
- Excellent drafting, analytical and communication skills
- A proactive, commercial mindset with enthusiasm for working directly with clients
- A collaborative and supportive approach to teamwork
- Previous experience in a technology/IP/data-focused team or environment would be beneficial
