About the Role
You will take responsibility for the day to day management of client and office account transactions, working closely with fee earners across the firm. The role combines accurate transactional processing with a strong compliance focus, ensuring the firm meets its obligations under the SRA Accounts Rules at all times.
Legal Cashier Responsibilities
- Preparing completion statements, abortive transaction statements and apportionment calculations for residential and commercial property matters
- Processing client account payments, receipts and inter-account transfers via the case management system and online banking platforms
- Managing completion day transactions, ensuring funds are received, transmitted and recorded accurately and on time
- Verifying client and third party bank details in line with anti-fraud procedures
- Processing disbursements including search fees, Land Registry fees and SDLT
- Responding to financial queries from clients, fee earners, lenders and estate agents
- Assisting with credit control and monitoring outstanding invoices
- Supporting compliance with SRA Accounts Rules, AML regulations and internal financial policies, escalating irregularities or fraud risks as appropriate
Legal Cashier Requirements
- Previous experience as a Legal Cashier, Finance Assistant or Accounts Assistant, ideally within a conveyancing or legal environment
- Good working knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules and legal accounting principles
- Experience with legal accounts software and case management systems
- Excellent attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy
- Strong numerical, organisational and time management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Professional and reliable, with a firm commitment to confidentiality and regulatory compliance
