About the Role
As a Marine Lawyer, you will become part of an accomplished team delivering specialist advice on maritime law and shipping matters to an impressive range of marine clients. Your work will centre on wet shipping, encompassing P&I and Defence work, Admiralty cases (including collisions, pollution incidents and total losses) alongside select non-contentious matters. This position combines demanding legal work with client engagement, including opportunities to represent the practice at industry events both domestically and internationally.
Marine Lawyer Responsibilities
- Deliver specialist legal counsel on maritime law and shipping matters
- Manage P&I and Defence work, including sophisticated Admiralty cases
- Oversee a varied caseload of wet shipping litigation
- Undertake detailed legal research and analysis on specialist maritime issues
- Represent clients through negotiations and legal proceedings
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients and industry professionals
- Participate in and represent the firm at marine sector events and exhibitions
- Support business development and marketing activities
- Drive the ongoing expansion and evolution of the Marine Department
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior colleagues where appropriate
Marine Lawyer Requirements
- Qualified solicitor or legal executive with 3+ years PQE in civil litigation
- Outstanding research and analytical capabilities
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Genuine enthusiasm for the marine sector and maritime law
- Strong networking and business development abilities
- Capacity to perform effectively under pressure whilst maintaining rigorous attention to detail
